Lessons in Gratitude: Day 4 – Sometimes Gratitude Is Hard

Have you ever had one of those nights where you just need someone to wrap you in their arms and hold you as the tears run hot down your cheeks? Have you spent a day smiling through the uncertainty and the fear and the pain? Have you watched other people rejoicing in the blessings you’ve been praying for and wondered why it has to come so hard, or not at all, for you?

If you’ve been there, or if you’re there in this very moment, know that you’re not alone. It may seem like small comfort, but take what comfort you can in knowing that you are not the only one who feels this way, that you do not walk a solitary path.

On a day where it feels hard to find reasons for gratitude, today I am grateful for the knowledge that there are people walking with me down every difficult road. And as I lay here wanting nothing more than to be held in comforting arms, I’m thinking of the people in my life who are in need of comfort, and my heart is going out to you where my arms cannot reach.

You are loved. Whatever today brings, whatever caused the tears to flow or whatever fears have settled in your heart, just know that you are loved.

I’m not promising that it will all be better tomorrow, I’m not saying it’s all going to work out in the end. All I can say is that I’m here, and I know the pain and the fears, and I know the burden and I’ve shed the tears. So you don’t have to do this alone. And maybe that can be a glimmer of something to be grateful for.
