View from the Road

I’m one of those people in their late 30’s who’s still trying to figure out who she is and what she wants her life to be. When I was younger, I thought I’d have it all together by now, but as I learn and grow I’m beginning to think we never actually have it all together. Life is constantly changing and as we change with it we have to learn and relearn who we are, what we want and where we’re going.

So I’m just another person on this journey, inviting you to join me and see what life has to offer. I hope to never stop learning, so what I learn, I’m happy to share with you in case it helps you on your journey. Together, we build lives worth living. So here’s the view from my road.

You Were Born to Be a Princess

I love fantasy stories. Tell me about knights on horseback combating ancient evil or the adventures of a rag-tag band of misfits with a destiny and I’m hooked. It doesn’t get much better than that, unless you throw in a princess. Stories are usually better with princesses, especially if it’s an average, everyday girl who...

Do You Have a Step of Faith?

Is there a step of faith you know you should take right now? When you hear the phrase “step out in faith” does any one thing immediately come to mind? I’ve been struggling with faith in one particular area of my life for years. I struggle because obedience in this area definitely requires more of...

Are You Living as a Victim or a Victor?

We’ve all had those pivotal life experiences, the ones we can look back on years later and say, “That changed who I am as a person.” I wish I could say that those experiences are always for the better, but the truth is that, more often than not, they are failures or hurts that change...

He’s with You in the Storm

As I was being wheeled down the cold hallway on a gurney, headed to the x-ray room, I looked up at my husband and said, with tears in my eyes, “I am on that boat and it’s storming and I’m really ready for Jesus to show up.” I then closed my eyes and under my...

Lessons in Gratitude: Day 6 – The Joy of Community

We all long to be a part of something. Even the most introverted among us longs to be wanted and accepted, even if only from a distance. So those moments when we witness, or better yet, participate in true community are precious. Today I was blessed to witness community at its best, not once, not...

Lessons in Gratitude: Day 5 – Small Favors

Sometimes all it takes is a small favor to remind you that you’re not forgotten. Maybe it’s a bouquet of dandelions or a free ice cream cone. Maybe it’s an unexpected letter of encouragement in the mail or finding $5 in the pocket of a pair of jeans you haven’t worn in months. For me...

Lessons in Gratitude: Day 4 – Sometimes Gratitude Is Hard

Have you ever had one of those nights where you just need someone to wrap you in their arms and hold you as the tears run hot down your cheeks? Have you spent a day smiling through the uncertainty and the fear and the pain? Have you watched other people rejoicing in the blessings you’ve...

Lessons in Gratitude: Day 3

Some days creativity comes easy, some days, not so much. I never received formal training in my profession, so there are times when I take on a job and feel like I’m in way over my head. When you’re self taught, most of the time you only learn new techniques when you have to use...
