Why Daughter of Ruth?

The meaning behind the name...

I know, it’s an unusual name for a blog, and it actually surprised even me. You see, I knew I wanted to start writing again, and as I’d previously enjoyed blogging, I figured it was a good way to get started. But what on earth do you name a blog these days? I considered a few things, but they were all taken (and not very good names to begin with anyway). It may seem silly, but I actually wrestled with the name for days – after all, your blog name sets the whole tone for your site.

The Friday Five

Welcome to the Friday Five where I'll share with you five things that I'm either reading, using, cooking, exploring or loving. I never know what'll show up in the Friday Five, and I can almost guarantee I won't post a new one every week because new mom life does not leave me a lot of...

Defining Perfection

I’ve been reading a lot of books lately about simplifying, decluttering, embracing creativity and living your best life. Some have spiritually sound advice, some, not so much. But it’s all a part of my quest to live more intentionally and embrace the essentials while releasing those things which are weighing me down and causing me...

What Do You Want More of In Your Life?

I know Daughter of Ruth has been on one massive hiatus - since January of 2018, as a matter of fact. My life has changed drastically since then. When last I wrote, I was a wife and a mastiff mom, and, unbeknownst to me, I was very, very newly pregnant. And now I'm a wife...

You Were Born to Be a Princess

I love fantasy stories. Tell me about knights on horseback combating ancient evil or the adventures of a rag-tag band of misfits with a destiny and I’m hooked. Do You Have a Step of Faith?

Is there a step of faith you know you should take right now? When you hear the phrase “step out in faith” does any one thing immediately come to mind? I’ve been struggling with faith in one particular area of my life for years. I struggle because obedience in this area definitely requires more of...

Are You Living as a Victim or a Victor?

We’ve all had those pivotal life experiences, the ones we can look back on years later and say, “That changed who I am as a person.” I wish I could say that those experiences are always for the better, but the truth is that, more often than not, they are failures or hurts that change...

Challenge Yourself

I have a friend who loves to hike. She lives in an area surrounded by the kind of scenery most of us only read about in books, and every few weeks I see her post about her latest hike on Facebook. It fills me with envy. I may live in one of the most beautiful...

He’s with You in the Storm

As I was being wheeled down the cold hallway on a gurney, headed to the x-ray room, I looked up at my husband and said, with tears in my eyes, “I am on that boat and it’s storming and I’m really ready for Jesus to show up.” I then closed my eyes and under my...

Lessons in Gratitude: Day 6 – The Joy of Community

We all long to be a part of something. Even the most introverted among us longs to be wanted and accepted, even if only from a distance. So those moments when we witness, or better yet, participate in true community are precious. Today I was blessed to witness community at its best, not once, not...
